She was a comedienne and actresss who toured the country and was famous for her fabulous showmanship. By the 1920s her popularity had decreased and she died in 1924 leaving a very considerable heritage which was battled over for years. Charlotte Mignon Crabtree, known as "Lotta," was born in 1847, and began her career at the age of six in California, where her parents ran a boarding house during the Gold Rush. Charlotte Mignon “Lotta” Crabtree. (1847-1924) Her father, John Crabtree, came from New York seeking gold, sent for his family in 1853, and moved to Grass Valley. A few doors away lived Lola Montez, the Countess Landsfeldt, who began to teach young Lotta to sing and dance. Lotta Crabtree died September 25, 1924 at the age of 76 and was interred next to her mother in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, New York.
